Like all of DJI’s drones, the new Mavic Mini comes in two kits: standard and fly more combo. While the fly more combo is only $100 more than the standard version, this represents a 25% increase in price due to the drone’s low initial price. Let’s take a look at whether that is worth it.
Taking a look at the unboxing video below we see that besides the drone, battery and controller the Mavic Mini standard version doesn’t include many accessories. Spare propellers, controller smartphone cables, extra controller knobs — pretty typical for DJI to include.
However, where it strays from the Mavic Air and Mavic 2 standard versions is the lack of a stand-alone charger. The Mavic Mini standard version only comes with a micro USB cable for charging the drone’s battery. This requires the battery to be in the drone for charging meaning that if you pick up a second battery you can’t fly with one battery while charging the other.
The Fly More Combo version of the Mavic Mini includes the standard DJI FMC accessories. These are: two extra batteries, a multi-battery charger, a full set of spare propellers, extra micro USB cable, and a carrying case. In addition to this though, the Mavic Mini FMC kit comes with a 360° propellor guard and an 18W USB power adapter for charging the Mavic Mini or controller.
To determine if the Mavic Mini FMC is worth it, let’s first take a look at the actual cost of buying all the included accessories separately.
Adding up the cost of all the accessories, we see the Mavic Mini FMC includes $212 worth of accessories. Considering that the FMC only costs an extra $100 this means the Mavic Mini Fly More Combo is actually a very good deal. Even if we break it down to just the “essential accessories” (1 extra battery, extra propellor set, and the multi-battery charger), we still get a total of $96 — meaning that for just $4 you are getting the third battery, carrying case, 360° prop guard, micro USB cable, and USB wall adapter.
Though it can be tempting to opt for the less expensive standard version — especially if you’re on a tight budget — spending the extra $100 to get the Fly More Combo will save you money in the long run. On top of this, you’ll also have a better experience flying the drone with less worrying about charging batteries or what to carry your new Mavic Mini in.
