Sennheiser’s new 300 Pro headphones aimed at content creators

Sennheiser unveiled a new line of monitoring headphones that are designed for professional content creators working on set, or on the go. The Sennheiser 300 Pro series are made for people who might need a sturdy set of headphones, like those who work on production teams or as camera operators. They have enough flexibility, so you could use them while filming something like a video blog when traveling.

The line includes five new headphones that feature what Sennheiser calls a “comfort area” for the temples of glasses, and a split-padding design meant to reduce pressure on the skull over long periods of wear. The company claims its new fork design makes the ear pad more comfortable while maintaining a better seal against external noise. The lineup also features bendable and twistable headbands, detachable cables, a cardioid boom microphone, and customizable nameplates so you can put your company or band logo on the outside of the ear pads.

The headphones will also feature the company’s ActiveGard feature, which Sennheiser says will protect a user’s hearing from sudden bursts of sound without interrupting the audio signal.

The lineup includes the following five models:

  • HD 300 Pro — Sennheiser’s new monitoring headphones
  • HD 300 Protect — same as the HD 300 Pro, but with ActiveGard
  • HMD 300 Pro — ActiveGard, noise compensation (which our resident headphone expert Vlad Savov says is noise isolation), and a cardioid boom microphone
  • HMD 300-XQ-2 — like the HMD 300 Pro, but with a detachable cable featuring XLR-3 and 6.35mm jack connectors
  • HMD 301 Pro — the HMD 300 Pro as a single-sided headset

Sennheiser engineers based the new line of headphones on the HD 250 Linear model. The new 300 Pro headphones are also similar to Sennheiser’s HD 280 and 380 Pro models, which are also known for their monitoring and noise-isolation capabilities. The HD 280 and 380 Pro models are priced at $99.99 and $149.99, respectively. So it’s likely the new 300 Pro models will be in a similar price range, with more expensive options for additional features. The 300 Pro line will likely compete with something like the Beyerdynamic DT 240 headphones, which are also aimed at content creators on the go.

Sennheiser’s new headphones will be available in August 2018, at which time we should learn more about pricing.
