The Spark is DJI’s entry level drone. Though it doesn’t feature a folding design like more expensive Mavic Air and Mavic Pro, it still is super portable while being fairly capable. Originally released in May 2017, it started out priced $499 for the drone and $699 for the fly more combo.

‘Tis the season…

Beginning with Black Friday and continuing through the holidays, DJI started slashing prices with sales on all their drones. The Spark was no exception. DJI only dropped the price down to $399 but other retailers discounted it even further, even throwing in gift cards. Now that we’re past the holidays — and with the release of the pricier Mavic Air — DJI has left the Spark at $399 much to woe of other drone makers. At that price it is an excellent beginner drone. As you can tell by the video below, the lack of a full 3-axis gimbal and 1080p limitation doesn’t prevent you from getting awesome footage with a little practice.

Sweetening the deal

Though many retailers like B&H and Best Buy are now offering the Spark for only $349, DJI continues to sell it for $399. However, with their latest promotion they are now throwing in a free controller ($119 value). This is a great deal as one of the biggest drawbacks of the non-fly more combo Spark is the lack of a physical controller. Besides the obvious plus of longer range, the physical controller makes it easier to fly the Spark smoothly as having the control sticks gives you tactile feedback on their position.

No word on how long DJI will keep offering this awesome promotion. Looking at how their past deals on the Spark ended up sticking around, we could see this become permanent. If you’ve been eyeing the Spark for a while now though, I wouldn’t wait any longer: this is the deal for you.
