Mackie introduces new mics and headphones aimed at podcasters

The NAMM (the National Association of Music Merchants) show 2020 kicks off in Anaheim today bringing with it a smattering of new audio recording gear.

Legendary speaker manufacturer Mackie has used the event to announce several new products, including some headphones and microphones which are designed for podcasters, streamers and other online creators.

Here’s what you need to know about what they announced.

New mics, like brand new

Despite being well known for its speakers and live audio gear, Mackie had yet to branch out into microphones — until now.

Grouped as part of its new “EleMent Series”, the trio of microphones combine professional-caliber performance, Mackie’s famed Built-like-a-tank™ rugged reliability and outstanding value.

First up is the EM-91C large-diaphragm condenser microphone.

Retailing for only $79, this mic is sure to be popular among musicians looking to set up a home studio on a budget as well as online content creators.

For those who want a simpler audio set up, the Mackie EM-USB condenser mic is for you.

As the name suggests it utilizes an easy USB-C connection making it perfect for streamers, podcasts, and musicians that don’t want to deal with the hassle of an audio interface.

It’s available to preorder now for $149.

Finally, the EM-89D mic — the least expensive of the three — is a $69 dynamic microphone for live performances.

MC-350 & MC-450 studio headphones

Mackie has expanded its popular MC Series headphone line with the new MC-350 and MC-450 professional headphones.

Both offer full range 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, Mackie’s classic rugged design, and feature premium, real leather adjustable headbands and conforming ear pads

With 50mm drivers and a closed-back design, the MC-350 is similar to the popular ATH-M50X by Audio Technica making them a great choice for mixing, studio recording, or focused critical listening without any sound leakage.

The MC-350s will ship in February and comes with a price tag of $199.

Despite costing $100 more, the Mackie MC-450 headphones use smaller 42mm drivers but offer a wider, deeper soundstage and reduced ear fatigue.

Additionally, both of Mackie’s new MC headphones come with three cables of various lengths, a 1/4-inch connector, a 1/8-inch adapter, and a premium headphone case.

Money and time-saving bundles

On top of all the new gear Mackie released (including new studio monitors), they also announced four bundles — Creator, Performer, Producer, and Studio — perfect for quickly getting all the gear you need for a home studio.

The most popular of the four will likely be the Creator Bundle, which for $249 includes the EM-USB mic, CR3X desktop monitors, MC-100 headphones, and cables.

Expected availability is March 2020.
